Still Fridays - Surya - The Sun

On the longest day of the year, when the sun reaches its fullest expression and the light holds longest before turning inward — we gather.

In Ancient Ayurveda, Surya — the Sun — is the source of all vitality, clarity, and identity. It governs our sense of self, our purpose, and our capacity to shine. When Surya is in balance, we know who we are. We move through our days with direction and warmth. When Surya is depleted — through chronic pain, burnout, or the accumulated weight of a life lived at too fast a pace — we lose the thread of ourselves.

Modern neuroscience understands this through the lens of the default mode network — the brain's center of self-referential thought, identity, and purpose. When the nervous system is dysregulated, this network goes quiet. We stop knowing what we want. We stop feeling like ourselves.
