A Journey with the Navagraha

Updated: 2 days ago

From the Ancient Temples to Your Eight Fields of Living

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by the cosmos. The complete wonder at the infinite. Nights spent gazing skyward at the stars. Peering through a child’s telescope in the hopes of seeing the rings of Saturn but settling on a close up of the moon’s landscape.

Many hours were spent with a tattered library copy of National Geographic’s Book titled Our Universe. I can recall the pages vividly, not only did it explain the scientific knowledge of the planet, but the planet’s symbol and mythology.

It was the mythology and that symbol that fascinated my young mind most of all. I wanted more than anything to go into orbit and have a direct experience of the stars and planets. I still do. But the dream of being an astronaut was quickly shattered by my poor math skills and a mediocore SAT score.

Fast Forward.

I am in my senior year at Purdue University. My boyfriend (now husband) was taking an Eastern Religions course and sharing a bit of the knowledge with me.  We traveled to Bloomington, Indiana to attend a lecture by His Holiness, the Dalai Lama.

I was hooked.

I dove deeply into Eastern religion, thought, and mysticism.  From this new found obsession, I stepped into my first yoga class.

Yoga was different then. It had not yet metamorphized into a fitness fad stripped of the mysticism and meaning. My first yoga teacher chanted mantras, had the Shiva Nataraj proudly displayed on an altar, and photos of great saints around the room. There were no mirrors.

It was here, in this yoga room repurposed from a garage in Elkhart, Indiana, that my transformation and I daresay, my destiny, unfolded.  It was the door…the portal.

A year into my yoga practice, I met yantrika and yogini Sarah Tomlinson, and most powerfully, the Navagraha.

It was then that I was introduced to the Ancient Ayurveda and The Art of Multidimensional Living system that was cognized by the modern sage, Edward Tarabilda. This system did not feel new or mysterious to me

It was a remembering. The soul knew this before, maybe even for a millennia. It just clicked.

The Ancient Ayurveda system delineates Eight Fields of Living and each of these Fields of Living is governed by a particular one of the Navagraha.

The Navagraha are the 9 Cosmic Forces or Aspects the Human Experience which are also commonly called the planets - Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, and the Lunar Nodes.

Ah-ha! There it was, the connection to the planets and cosmos that I yearned for as a child. Not only were the planets in the sky above, they reside within each of us. As above, so below.

I had a knack for the planets- The Navagraha. My teacher commented that I appeared to have a siddhi, a supernatural knowledge, for the Navagraha. I could easily retain each person’s individual blueprint, where each graha (planet) resides in a specific Field of Living in their life. This is what creates their unique personality and even their life path. I understood how the grahas were weaving a beautiful web that created their outward experiences.

Now, even after nearly 25 years of study and practice of this powerful system, I am still amazed and full of wonder as the knowlege continues to unfold when I work with clients or see it reflected in my own life and that of close friends and family.

This never ending sense of wonder is the very definition of passion.

I am passionate about the Navagraha and their influence on our lives. This is the heart of my work.

It is this passion and dedication to the Ancient Ayurveda system of knowledge that led me on a great pilgrimage to Tamil Nadu, India just a few weeks ago with Sarah Tomlinson. This is where the Navagraha reside, each in their own temple, revered by millions.

What would it feel like to be standing there in their ‘home’, their vibration, their energy so viscerally?

Even after so many years of study, nothing could have prepared me for the transformation I experienced.

Upon returning from India, I have clarity on the importance of sharing the knowledge of the Navagraha on a broader, brighter scale. It is the essence of my practice and work in this world.

It is as if you are being let in on a great ancient secret. The cheat codes.  It is my role to pass on this secret.

This blog series is an offering to the Navagraha inspired by my pilgrimage.

Over the coming weeks, I will share my transformative journey across Tamil Nadu, India visiting each temple. You too will take this pilgrimage with me and through my experiences, you will better understand how the Navagraha influence in your own life.

We are one, ever connected and beautifully differentiated.

What are the Navagraha?

The Navagraha are commonly referred to as cosmic forces but I particularly prefer to call them, The Nine Aspects of the Human Experience. Translated as Nava = 9 and Graha = Grasper, meaning that which seizes or influences human life. They are commonly referred to as the Planets.

  • SUN

  • MOON

  • MARS

  • MERCURY

  • JUPITER

  • VENUS

  • SATURN

  • RAHU (North Node of the Moon)

  • KETU (South Node of the Moon)

But in this tradition of Ancient Ayurveda, they are not astrological references. This system is NOT astrology. Nor are they simply astronomical bodies. They are archetypical forces that shape our reality.

In this system that I practice, the Navagraha govern the Eight Fields of Living:

  • Physical Health

  • Vitality & Emotions

  • Dharma

  • Creative Play

  • Career

  • Relationships

  • Desires

  • Spirituality

Each person carries a unique configuration of these achetypical forces —a fundamental blueprint. This blueprint reveals patterns, strengths, challenges, and the spiritual path. The grahas are not outside of you. They live within you.

The Nine Aspects of The Human Experience

Each week, I will illuminate one graha — sharing its traditional teachings, my pilgrimage experience in its temple, and how its intelligence shapes your life.

Why This Matters for You

When we do not understand how the Navagraha influence our lives or do not have knowledge of our unique blueprint, life can feel confusing or reactive. Which voice do you listen to?

When we understand which graha governs each Field of Living in our lives, patterns begin to make sense. Challenges become purposeful. Strengths become clearer. Timing becomes more intuitive.

We begin to value the uniqueness- the beautiful differentiation-of those we love in our lives and this leads to greater understanding and less opposition.

We stop fighting the current and we begin working with it. Life no longer feels oppositional but a becomes a playground of beautiful experiences.

The Navagraha are not here to control you. They are here to awaken you!

If you are curious to discover where each of the Nine Forces reside within your Eight Fields of Living, I invite you to schedule a personal consultation. Your blueprint is entirely unique — and profoundly revealing. Book your session here.
